HP Tandem Advanced Command Language (TACL)
HP Tandem Advanced Command Language (TACL). A utility of the NonStop Kernel. The
TACL tool is used as the primary general-purpose interface for command and control
for HP NonStop systems.
HP Tandem Failure Data System (TFDS). A component of the NonStop Kernel. This tool
isolates software problems and provides automatic processor failure data collection,
diagnosis, and recovery services.
HP Tandem Maintenance and Diagnostic System (TMDS). A utility of the NonStop
Kernel. The TMDS subsystem provides hardware diagnostics.
incident. A failure of a single processor, and the data collection associated with the failure,
including the dump, logs, and configuration data.
incident database. A permanent file residing on disk that contains records describing
incidents.
OPRLOG files. These files contain information that is sent to the system operator console.
PEL. The processor that registers program counter, environment, and stack location.
RCVDUMP. A utility of the NonStop Kernel. The RCVDUMP tool is used to perform
processor dumps.
rediscovery. In TFDS, the process of mapping an incident to known problems (previous
incidents of the same type, as determined by data patterns).
reduced instruction-set computing (RISC). A processor architecture based on a relatively
small and simple instruction set, a large number of general-purpose registers, and an
optimized instruction pipeline that supports high-performance instruction execution.
REPSUBSYS. The Install step used to replace and secure utilities not restored during the
RESTSYS Install step.
RESTSYS. The Install step used to restore from tape to disk for the core operating system
and required utilities.
RISC. See reduced instruction-set computing (RISC).
system services. The tasks performed on behalf of the user or user programs by the
operating system, including formatting, process control, I/O support, performance
measurement, process pair support, standard security, and transaction management.
TACL. See HP Tandem Advanced Command Language (TACL).
TFDS. See HP Tandem Failure Data System (TFDS).
TFDSCOM. The user interface for TFDS. TFDSCOM is used to perform command and
control functions for the TFDS subsystem and to obtain incident information.
