What Are The
TGAL Defaults?
TGAL has a standard page length of 66 lines and a standard page width of
85 characters. TGAL assumes:
Your paper is 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches
Your printer prints 6 lines to each vertical inch
Your printer prints 10 characters to each horizontal inch (pica on a typewriter).
On each printed page, TGAL does the following:
It prints 54 lines of text
It leaves 1-inch (6-line) margin at both the top and bottom of the page
It sets a left margin of 0. This margin begins at the edge of the page
It sets a line length of 70 columns. This makes a right margin of 15 characters or
1 1/2 inches.
When no additional commands are added to your file before you send it to the printer,
TGAL prints:
A line as you typed it into the EDIT file, truncating lines over 70 characters and
leaving intact lines under 70 characters
An uneven right margin
A page number on the third line after the last line designated for text (1/2 inch
from the bottom of the page)
