How Does TGAL Work?
Understanding TGAL
060865 Tandem Computers Incorporated 1–5
When you use the standard page format and don’t add any TOPMARGIN or
BOTTOMMARGIN commands to the file, TGAL prints:
A heading on line 4 or a blank line if there is no heading (1/2 inch from the top
edge of the page)
A subheading on line 5 or a blank line if there is no subheading
A blank line
The first line of text on line 7 (1 inch from the top edge of the page)
The last line of text on line 60, the seventh line from the bottom edge of the page
(1 inch from the bottom edge of the page)
A blank line
A footing on line 62, the fifth line from the bottom edge of the page
A page number and section name on line 63, the fourth line from the bottom edge
of the page
If TGAL sends a copy to a printer, it assumes the printer skips three blank lines at the
top of a page and leaves three blank lines at the bottom of a page. If you use TGAL to
send a document to a device other than a printer (a terminal, for example), it prints
your page with three blank lines above the heading line and three blank lines after the
page number line.
