Commands Default Value Value Range Explanation
ALT OFF 0 1-65 Columns prints headings, subheadings and page
numbers on alternating sides of the page;
adds space to the left margin on even-
numbered pages.
ARROW ON prints a continuation arrow in a box that
exceeds one page.
BLANK defines a character that prints as a blank
but prevents additional blanks for line
justification.
BOTTOMMARGIN 6 6-30 Lines defines the size of the bottom margin in
lines.
BOX starts or stops a box.
BREAK causes a break in joining and suppresses
justification of the preceding line.
CENTER OFF centers lines of text. If you omit the
command option, then TGAL centers one
line.
CHANGES prints only those pages which have a
footing.
COMMENT ignores anything on a line that follows this
command.
DBL OFF double spaces text.
ERRORS ON controls the display of errors.
EXIT terminates TGAL
FOOT “ ” prints the specified text at the bottom of
each page. If you omit the command
option, then TGAL pops the next footing
from the foot stack. TGAL stacks up to
eight footings.
HEAD “ ” prints the specified text at the top of each
page.
IF 1-10 OFF allows conditional printing of text. If you
omit the command option, then TGAL
continues processing text.
IN merges files. Files can be nested to eight
levels.
JOIN OFF joins lines of text to form lines that are the
length specified in the OUTLEN
command.
JUSTIFY OFF inserts blanks at random between the
words in a line until the line exactly meets
the right margin,
LINENO OFF prints the EDIT file’s line numbers to the
right of the text.
