New and Changed Information
This publication has been updated to reflect new product names:
•
Since product names are changing over time, this publication might contain both
HP and Compaq product names.
•
Product names in graphic representations are consistent with the current product
interface.
This is the seventh edition of the HP NonStop TMF Operations and Recovery Guide,
formerly entitled the HP NonStop Transaction Management Facility (TMF) Operations
and Recovery Guide. This edition incorporates two previously published manual
supplements:
•
TMF Supplement for Limits and Defaults Changed After RVU G06.17
•
TMF Supplement for Offline Recovery Operations, which describes features
introduced with TMF 3.2.
This manual also includes information dealing with NonStop SQL/MX Release 2.0
features. In particular, this information covers the use of ANSI names in the TMFCOM
commands DUMP FILES and RECOVER FILES.
The following changes, many from the two manual supplements just noted, have been
made in this edition:
•
Section 1, Overview of TMF Maintenance and Recovery, updates the Displaying
Configuration Attributes discussion to explain and present examples of the
MAXRETAINEDATFILES, ROUNDROBIN, and LAST REEL information now
displayed in the INFO TMF command output.
•
Section 3, Occasional Operations, revises the following discussions:
°
Starting TMF and Stopping TMF, to discuss the new TMP event messages
displayed during TMF start-up and shut-down operations, respectively.
°
The ALTER AUDITTRAIL Command, to introduce the new audit-trail retention
feature.
•
Section 5, Online Dumps, updates the Selecting Dump Options discussion to
recommend the MXGNAMES utility for converting SQL/MX ANSI object names to
their underlying Guardian file names for input to the file-set and NOT file-
set parameters in the DUMP FILES command, and to indicate the new 28 KB
SPI buffer limit that affects these parameters.
•
Section 6, The TMF Catalog, presents a new topic, Changing the Tape Catalog
Search Method, revises the conditions under which the ALTER CATALOG
command can be entered in the Changing the Catalog Configuration discussion,
expands the note in the Reentering Deleted Dumps discussion, and makes other
minor clarifications in the text.
