Changing the Catalog Configuration
The following example demonstrates how a dump could accidentally be deleted if you
change the status of the last assigned entry in the dump to invalid or released:
TMF 10> ALTER DUMPS $DATA.TEMP.F3,SERIAL 100,INVALID ON
TMF 11> INFO DUMPS,DETAIL,SERIAL 100
TMF 12> ALTER DUMPS $DATA.TEMP.F2,SERIAL 100,RELEASED ON
TMF 13> INFO DUMPS,DETAIL,SERIAL 100
TMF 14> ALTER DUMPS $DATA.TEMP.F1,SERIAL 100,RELEASED ON
TMF 15> INFO DUMPS,DETAIL,SERIAL 100
Changing the Catalog Configuration
The ALTER CATALOG command changes configured TMF catalog attribute values.
You can use this command to change the value of the RETAINDEPTH attribute, to
designate what happens to tape volumes when all of the dumps they contain are
deleted, and to determine the method that the catalog process uses to search for a
scratch tape in response to a tape request.
You must be a member of the super-user group to use the ALTER CATALOG
command. The ALTER CATALOG command can be issued at any time, regardless of
whether TMF has been started.
Changing the RETAINDEPTH Value
The RETAINDEPTH attribute determines the number of online dump and associated
audit dump generations that are to remain in the TMF catalog. The default is 3.
The following example command changes the value of the RETAINDEPTH attribute
to 4:
TMF 20> ALTER CATALOG RETAINDEPTH 4
