Removing Dumps from the Catalog
Use the DELETE DUMPS command to remove dumps from the catalog; this command
changes the status for each dump you delete from ASSIGNED (needed for recovery)
to RELEASED (not needed for recovery) in the TMF catalog. The dump entries for a
specific tape reel or disk subvolume remain in the catalog, however, until all dump files
on that medium are marked either RELEASED or INVALID. Then, TMF removes all
dumps on that medium from the catalog and performs the following operations on the
medium itself:
•
For a tape medium, TMF changes the appropriate tape media entries to scratch
status (or released status, if you specified RELEASED ON in an ALTER CATALOG
command).
•
For a disk medium, TMF purges the files containing the dumps from disk. The
DELETE DUMPS command operates differently, depending on whether you use
the ! attribute.
•
If you include the ! attribute, the DELETE DUMPS command deletes a dump
entry in the TMF catalog regardless of whether all of the files belonging to the
dump could be physically purged from the disk. If one or more files cannot be
purged, an error message is issued and you must manually purge the files.
•
If you omit the ! attribute, the DELETE DUMPS command deletes a dump entry
in the TMF catalog only if the files belonging to the dump can be purged from
the disk. If one or more files cannot be purged, an error message is issued;
