Adding Tape Media to the Catalog
Use the ADD TAPEMEDIA command to add tape volumes to the TMF catalog. TMF
tape volumes are labeled tapes, created by HP system labeled-tape processing.
Tapes are automatically added with a status of SCRATCH as long as you use the
LABEL ON or LABEL ON! option; otherwise you must explicitly specify a status of
SCRATCH when you add tapes.
The following command adds a scratch tape volume to the catalog:
TMF 52> ADD TAPEMEDIA ATM010, LABEL ON, DRIVE $TAPE, &
>>>STATUS SCRATCH
If the tape you are adding already has a label and you want to change it, you must use
the LABEL ON ! option. If you do not specify !, an error message appears identifying
the existing label and indicating that the command will not be performed.
You might have to use the ADD TAPEMEDIA command to add tape volumes that were
mistakenly deleted or to recover media entries in the TMF catalog; to do so, use the
LABEL OFF option. The tape volumes are added to the TMF catalog, but are not
relabeled. This operation requires no tape handling.
The following command reenters a previously labeled tape volume to the catalog. You
must include the STATUS and LABEL OFF options of the ADD TAPEMEDIA
command:
TMF 54> ADD TAPEMEDIA ATM014, LABEL OFF, STATUS ASSIGNED
You must be a member of the super user group to use the ADD TAPEMEDIA
command. See the TMF Reference Manual for complete instructions on using this
command.
Changing the Status of a Tape Volume
The ALTER TAPEMEDIA command alters the status of existing tape volumes in the
TMF catalog.
Tapes can be in any of the following states:
•
Scratch: available for receiving new dumps
•
Assigned: contains valid dumps required for file recovery
