About This Manual
This manual describes methods for maintaining the HP NonStop™ Transaction
Management Facility (TMF) on HP NonStop servers.
This manual also describes TMF recovery methods that can be used to maintain the
integrity and consistency of databases for online transaction processing (OLTP)
applications.

Who Should Read This Manual
This manual is intended for system managers and operators responsible for using TMF
to do the following tasks:
Day-to-day TMF operations (such as monitoring audit trails, audit and online
dumps, data volumes, and transactions), and managing audit-trail files
Dumping and archiving audit information and the database
Recovering a database when TMF cannot automatically recover from a failure
As a prerequisite for this manual, you should read TMF Introduction.
Furthermore, to use this manual effectively, you should have a working knowledge of
the HP NonStop Kernel operating system. Also, you should understand the use of the
File Utility Program (FUP), Subsystem Control Facility (SCF), Guardian disk and tape
utilities, HP NonStop Storage Management Foundation (SMF) product (if your system
uses this product), and TMFCOM commands. For information about those products,
see the manuals for them.
How This Manual is Organized
Section 1, Overview of TMF Maintenance and Recovery, provides an overview of the
TMF maintenance tasks, and a description of the STATUS TMF and INFO TMF
displays. These two displays allow you to monitor the status and attributes of TMF,
which is vital information for smooth TMF operation.
