Overview of TMF Maintenance and
Recovery
This section provides an overview of the maintenance tasks performed for TMF. It also
describes the TMF STATUS and TMF INFO displays. These two displays let you
monitor the status and attributes of TMF, and contain information vital for smooth TMF
operation.
Maintenance Summary
This subsection describes the daily, weekly, and corrective tasks required to keep your
TMF system running smoothly and efficiently. Each task is discussed later in this guide
(in the sections noted in parentheses following the task description).
Daily Tasks
Do the following maintenance throughout the day:
Monitor TMF operations: make sure that TMF is running, new transactions are able
to start, and data volumes are up (Section 2, Routine Maintenance).
Monitor the EMS log for messages that may require your attention (Section 2,
Routine Maintenance).
Make sure audit dumps are occurring as needed (Section 4, Audit Dumps).
Make sure there are sufficient TMF-labeled scratch tapes available for audit dumps
and online dumps (Section 6, The TMF Catalog).
Weekly Tasks
Do the following maintenance weekly or as needed:
Make online dumps and then print the TMF catalog (Section 5, Online Dumps).
Label enough TMF scratch tapes for the week (Section 6, The TMF Catalog).
Monitor the TMF catalog to make sure dumps are being released when scheduled
(Section 6, The TMF Catalog).
Make sure you have current copies of system reports (Section 2, Routine
Maintenance and Section 7, Recovery Methods).
