Keeping Current System Information
Keeping Current System Information
You can easily keep track of your TMF system and other system components by
maintaining a command file that contains a copy of your present configuration, and by
printing copies of the output from TMF status and information commands and other
system reports you routinely run. Keeping this information organized by subject and
date in a notebook will provide easy access when you need information about a
specific part of your system:
•
To capture a fully runnable copy of your current configuration in a command file,
issue the INFO TMF, CNFGFORM command. This command file will contain all
TMFCOM commands needed to reconfigure and start TMF, producing a running
system that exactly matches your present configuration. (The INFO TMF,
CNFGFORM command, however, does not capture dump information from the
TMF catalog.)
•
When you want to reconfigure your TMF system and need audit-trail capacity
figures or typical transaction rates, you can refer to the output from previous
STATUS AUDITTRAIL, DETAIL commands.
•
If you have to rebuild your TMF catalog and need complete information about all
TMF dumps, you can refer to the output from previous INFO DUMPS, OBEYFORM
commands. (The output from the INFO DUMPS, OBEYFORM command augments
the configuration information captured by the INFO TMF, CNFGFORM command,
which together provide a total view of your overall TMF system.)
•
If there is a recurring problem on your system, you can keep the output from
DISPLAY OPERATIONS commands to compile a historical record of system
events.
•
To keep a historical account of disk space and file errors, you can generate various
DSAP reports (see the Guardian Disk and Tape Utilities Reference Manual for
information).
It is very important to protect your system by performing routine backups of the TMF
catalog and configuration files, and the EMS log. Whenever you change the TMF
configuration, note the changes in your system notebook and create a new backup of
the configuration files by using the INFO TMF, CNFGFORM command.
