Maintaining the TMF Catalog
6. When all of the online dump files associated with a particular dump serial number
have been changed to released status, all entries for that serial number are
deleted. For dumps on tape, the associated tape media are changed from
assigned status to scratch status (or to released status, if you specified
RELEASED ON in an ALTER CATALOG command). For dumps on disk, the
status is changed from assigned to purged.
7. When all online dumps to which a particular audit dump applies have been deleted,
the audit dump is deleted. For dumps on tape, the associated tape media are
changed from assigned status to scratch status (or to released status, if you
specified RELEASED ON in an ALTER CATALOG command). For dumps on disk,
the status is changed from assigned to purged.
Maintaining the TMF Catalog
The TMF catalog provides the information you need to keep track of audit and online
dump media. By routinely monitoring the catalog, you can prepare for upcoming dump
procedures and get the proper media available in advance. This section explains how
to understand the catalog entries, and perform routine catalog maintenance.
Displaying Catalog Attributes
Use the INFO TMF or INFO CATALOG command to become familiar with the TMF
catalog configuration. See Displaying Configuration Attributes on page 1-6 for a
description of the TMF catalog configuration attributes.
Understanding Catalog Entries
The dump entries in the TMF catalog describe online dumps and audit dumps that
have been made to tape or disk media.
Audit dump entries include the following information:
•
The name of one audit-trail file
•
A unique serial number assigned to the audit dump
•
The time when the file dump completed
•
The names of the tape or disk volumes on which the file resides
Audit dumps are initiated automatically by TMF when an audit trail is configured to
have an audit dump process. Section 4, Audit Dumps, describes how to maintain audit
dumps.
Online dump entries include the following information:
•
The name of the audited file
•
A unique serial number assigned to the online dump
•
The time when the file dump completed
