Using the SCF STOP DISK Command on Audit-Trail
Volumes
if such an event occurs. In addition, you can specify how long you want this deferral to
continue. This capability greatly enhances the ability to achieve full ZLT.
For more information about RDF/ZLT and the COMMITHOLDMODE and
COMMITHOLDTIMER options, see the ALTER AUDITTRAIL command description in
the TMF Reference Manual.
Using the SCF STOP DISK Command on Audit-Trail Volumes
An active-audit volume or an overflow-audit volume must contain no active or overflow
audit-trail files before you can bring it down using the SCF STOP DISK command.
TMF generates an error if you try to bring down an active or overflow audit-trail volume
that contains any files. If you must bring down such a volume, you can either issue a
STOP TMF command and wait for audited activity to cease, or you can eliminate the
overflow condition and delete the overflow volume from the TMF configuration; then
you can issue the SCF STOP DISK command for the volume.
Use the SCF STOP DISK command as described in the SCF Reference Manual for G-
Series RVUs.
Disabling and Enabling Data Volumes
Data volumes that were in the started state when TMF was last stopped are
automatically started for transaction processing when you next start TMF. You may not
want data volumes to start in the following cases:
•
To prohibit audited activity on a data volume in preparation for hardware servicing,
or to delete it from the TMF configuration
•
To prevent volume recovery from running multiple times on a data volume that is
being started and stopped repeatedly during servicing
You cannot prevent OLTP applications from accessing a started data volume, and can
disable data volumes only when TMF is running.
The DISABLE DATAVOLS Command
To disable specific data volumes, issue the DISABLE DATAVOLS command and
specify the volume names:
TMF 35> DISABLE DATAVOLS ($DATA1, $DATA2)
Note. The COMMITHOLDMODE and COMMITHOLDTIMER options are only available on
systems running RDF/ZLT. These options are enabled when RDF/ZLT is installed.
Caution. Before bringing down an overflow-audit volume or a restore-audit volume, you must
delete this volume from your TMF configuration by using the ALTER AUDITTRAIL command.
If you do not perform this step, your next START TMF command will fail.
