Moving Between Earlier TMF
Environments and D46
This appendix provides information to help you change your application environment
from an earlier TMF product to the D46 product, and back again, if necessary.
Migrating any application environment from one release to another requires you to
migrate all other software products you are using along with TMF. For detailed
instructions for release migration, refer to the following manuals:
G-Series Highlights and Migration Planning Guide (to migrate to a G-series
release)
Gxx.xx Software Installation and Upgrade Guide (to migrate to a G-series release;
for Gxx.xx in the title, substitute the release ID for the G-series release to which
you are migrating.)
D-Series System Migration Planning Guide (to migrate to a D4x release)
D4x.xx Installation Guide (to migrate to a D4x release; for D4x.xx in the title,
substitute the release ID for the D4x release to which you are migrating.)
Within this appendix, the term “migrate” denotes the transition from an earlier product
to D46, while the term “fallback” denotes the transition from D46 back to an earlier
product.
D46 TMF generates a new audit format for all changes to all audited tables and files
even if format 2 is not being used. Therefore, the migration considerations described
in this appendix apply to all TMF users who migrate to D46.
Once you migrate to D46, you can only fall back to certain specific product versions for
which there are associated fallback IPMs. Within the D3x series of products, you can
only fall back to D38. Within the D4x series of products, you can only fall back to D44
or D45. All D3x products after D38 will include the necessary fallback support (you will
not need to use IPMs).
Note. Within this appendix, a particular version of the TMF product is identified by its Product
Version ID rather than by its NonStop Kernel Release ID. (The Product Version ID is the
identifier that appears in the TMFCOM banners and headers, and that is returned for the
product by VPROC.) Although there is only one current version of TMF (the D46 version), this
version is being made available on the G-series as well as the D-series systems, starting with
the G06.00 release. Therefore, in the following discussions, the notation “D46” implies a
product that runs on both D-series (D46.00 and later) and G-series (G06.00 and later)
systems.
D46 TMF supports the use of format 2 files. Format 2 is the file format on which Big Files are
based. Format 1 is the file format available before the introduction of Big Files. A Big File is
one using a partition format that can contain up to 1024 GB (previously, partition size was
limited to about 2 GB).
