ALTER PROCESS
specification applies to all processes of this type. For instance, when you specify
CPUS 1,2,5 for the BACKOUT process type, all backout processes can run in those
processors only.
For each TMF process type, the description and start-up characteristics are listed next.
Each description summarizes the process type’s purpose, execution characteristics,
and default processor assignment. As you will see, some types of processes start
when the NonStop Kernel operating system is generated, others start when TMF is
started, and still others run only when they are needed. Some persist continuously in
the system and others do not. Details about processor assignment options appear in
the discussion of the CPUS parameter on page 3-77.
AUDITDUMP
Description: An audit dump process dumps audit trails to secondary storage, such
as disk or tape. An audit dump process runs only when an audit trail is full and
audit dumping is turned on for that audit trail, or when a manual rollover is needed.
By default, audit dump processes are dynamically assigned to one or more
processors as needed. You can override the default by adding or removing
processors for this process type.
Process start-up: Audit dump processes start as they are needed.
AUDITRESTORE
Description: An audit restore process restores audit dumps from secondary
storage media such as disk or tape. An audit restore process runs only when
recovery is necessary. By default, audit restore processes are dynamically
assigned to one or more processors as needed. You can override the default by
adding or removing processors for this process type.
Process start-up: Audit restore processes start as they are needed.
BACKOUT
Description: A backout process undoes the effects of incomplete transactions.
Four backout processes are always present in the system, and by default run on
processors selected by the TMP. You cannot alter the number of backout
processes, but you can override their processor assignments. For further
information about processor assignment, see CPU Option Considerations
on
page 3-84.
Process start-up: The four backout processes start when TMF is started and
terminate when TMF is stopped.
CATALOG
Description: A catalog process is one member of the catalog process pair that
maintains, queries, and manipulates entries in the TMF catalog in response to
