ALTER PROCESS
Table 3-2. Stopping and Restarting TMF Processes
Process Type How Stopped and Restarted
TMP
To manually stop and restart the TMP process pair:
1. Issue a STOP TMF command to obtain a clean
shutdown of TMF.
2. Issue a STOP TMF, ABRUPT command to stop the
TMP processes. (This operation is equivalent to a
controlled TMF crash, which terminates both the
primary and backup TMPs. A new TMP process pair
is created automatically.)
3. Issue a START TMF command to restart TMF.
BACKOUT
CATALOG
To manually stop and restart all backout or catalog
processes:
1. Issue a STOP TMF command to obtain a clean
shutdown of TMF. This action stops all processes of
these types.
2. Issue a START TMF command to restart TMF. This
action restarts the processes.
An alternative way to stop and restart the backout or
catalog processes is by entering, through the TACL
command interpreter, a STOP process-name command
for each process. For the backout process-name, use
$XBKn, where n is a digit uniquely identifying the
particular process; for the catalog process pair, use
$XCAT. After they are stopped in this way, the TMP
automatically restarts the backout and catalog
processes.
TMFMON
TMFMON2
The TMFMON and TMFMON2 processes are started
automatically during system cold load and processor reload,
and run until the system is shut down or a processor fails.
The only way to stop and restart these processes is to cold
load the system or shut down and reload individual
processors.
