TMFCOM Tape Media
Considerations
TMFCOM commands that affect labeled magnetic tape media (those that add or alter
tape volume or dump entries in the TMF catalog) require you to be aware of certain
tape-labeling behavior. Information on using labeled tape appears in this section,
which discusses these topics:
Tape Density Settings
Through TMFCOM, you can read and write information to various magnetic tape drives
available on NonStop servers.
For open-reel drive options, you can specify the tape density in the DENSITY option of
the ADD TAPEMEDIA and SET TAPEMEDIA commands, using the values noted under
“Open-Reel Tape Tapes.” The DENSITY option applies only to open-reel drives, and
cannot be used with any other kinds of tape drives or devices.
You can reset the DENSITY attribute to its default value using the RESET TAPEMEDIA
command and display its current value using the SHOW TAPEMEDIA command.
For detailed labeling and density information for your tape drive, refer to the manual for
that particular drive.
Open-Reel Tape Drives
For all open-reel tape drives, the following rules apply to the ADD TAPEMEDIA and
SET TAPEMEDIA commands:
•
If you specify the DENSITY option when labeling an open-reel tape, you must set
this option to either 1600 or 6250 bits per inch (bpi); the tape volume is then
labeled with this value.
•
If you omit the DENSITY option, one of the following can occur:
•
If a density value for the tape drive was specified through the system
generation program, the tape volume is labeled with that value.
•
If a density value for the tape drive was not specified through the system
generation program, the tape volume is labeled at 1600 bpi by default.
