Message Types
Message Types
TMFCOM displays three basic types of messages:
Informative messages that report status or other normal conditions and that require
no action on your part
Error messages (preceded by the word ERROR) that indicate a mistake in a
command that prevented its execution; these messages typically require you to re-
enter the command correctly
Warning messages (preceded by the word WARNING) that indicate a potentially
dangerous or invalid operation, but that allow command execution to proceed;
these messages sometimes require you to re-enter the command, but often they
do not
Message Numbers
TMFCOM messages begin with unique identifying numbers. Under Message
Descriptions, the messages are listed in order of message number. The numeric
range in which a message number falls indicates the general category of the message:
Error Codes in Messages
Some TMFCOM messages include other messages from TMFCOM or information
from the operating system’s File System, the NEWPROCESS process-control
procedure, or the Enform query language and report writer. When present, this
information appears in the errcode parameter along with the identity of the
transmitting subsystem.
Note. Repetitions of the same message number and text do not always belong to the same
message type. For example, the same message might be accompanied by the ERROR
notation in some circumstances and by the WARNING notation, or no notation at all, in others.
For this reason, the message types are not noted in the individual message descriptions.
