TMFCOM Commands
HP NonStop TMF Reference Manual522418-002
3-2
Command Description Elements
Purpose, Syntax, and Parameters
Each description begins by explaining the purpose or function of the command. Then,
a syntax diagram and complete parameter descriptions indicate what keywords and
variables make up the command: which are required, which are optional, and what the
default assignments for the optional items are. The meanings of the symbols used in
the syntax diagrams are described under Notation Conventions on page xiv.
Security Restrictions
While several TMFCOM commands are available to all users, others have great impact
on the entire TMF system and are restricted to particular users only. The specific
security requirements for a command appear in the command description under the
heading “Security Restrictions.” In general:
The following TMFCOM commands are available to all users: CMDVOL, DISPLAY
OPERATIONS, ENV, EXIT, FC, HELP, HISTORY, INFO, OBEY, OBEYVOL, OPEN
SERVER, RESET, SET, SHOW, STATUS, VOLUME, ?, and !.
The other TMFCOM commands are restricted for use only by members of the
super user group.
Persons with the super ID (user ID 255,255) can issue any TMFCOM command.
For your convenience, the security restrictions for all TMFCOM commands are also
summarized in Table 3-1. This table shows which commands all users can enter,
which commands are restricted to members of the super user group, and which
commands are limited to persons with the super ID.
TMF State Requirement
Some TMFCOM commands can only be entered after TMF has been started; others
must be entered before TMF has been started or after it has been stopped. In each
command description, these constraints are listed under the heading “TMF State
Requirement.” For your convenience, the state requirements are also summarized in
Table 3-1.
