RECOVER FILES
Caution. When you issue a RECOVER FILES command to initiate file recovery to the
timestamp, and the time listed in the TMF catalog is not the time that the online dump actually
took place, you risk destruction of your database because you will probably not recover all the
data you need.
HP strongly recommends that you direct output from the RECOVER FILES command to a disk
file or a printer by using the standard OUT option; doing so enables you to save the entire
output for future reference. If you omit the OUT option, the output might be lost because the
default is the terminal from which you issue the command, and the terminal has limited
memory.
Before recovering a file that presently exists in the system, consider backing up that file to
preserve its current content and status.
The TOPHYSVOL, WHEREPHYSVOLIS, and RECOVERVDPPHASE1 options are intended for
use with NonStop Storage Management Foundation (SMF) files only. Before you issue a
RECOVER FILES command with any of these options, it is vital that you read Options for the
SMF Product on page 3-212.
