ALTER AUDITTRAIL
The COMMITHOLDMODE option determines whether TMF can activate commit-hold if
the resources needed to ensure ZLT become unavailable (ON allows commit-hold, and
OFF prohibits it). The COMMITHOLDTIMER option determines how long commit-hold
should last. The commit-hold status is reflected in the COMMITHOLD attribute setting
maintained by TMF, which you can display by entering the STATUS AUDITTRAIL
command.
Note. The COMMITHOLDMODE and COMMITHOLDTIMER features are only available on
systems running the HP NonStop™ Remote Database Facility (RDF) subsystem that
guarantees Zero Lost Transactions (RDF/ZLT). This option is enabled when RDF/ZLT is
installed; if RDF/ZLT is present on your system and this option is not presently enabled, please
contact the Global Customer Support Center (GCSC).
If you issue an ALTER AUDITTRAIL command with the COMMITHOLDMODE ON option for
the master audit trail, TMFCOM displays the following warning message and prompt:
WARNING: Incorrect use of this feature can negatively impact
your transaction environment.
Do you confirm turning CommitHoldMode ON:
If RDF/ZLT is installed on your system, you should respond as directed by the GCSC.
If you respond YES or Y to the prompt, regardless of whether RDF/ZLT is installed, you will
receive TMFCOM Error 8020, directing you to contact the GCSC if you wish to use the
COMMITHOLDMODE feature. If you respond NO or N (or any other character string) to the
prompt, TMFCOM prompts you for another command.
The warning message and prompt do not appear when you issue ALTER AUDITTRAIL with
COMMITHOLDMODE ON for auxiliary audit trails. Your response to the prompt when you
requested COMMITHOLDMODE ON for the master audit trail determines your ability to set
COMMITHOLDMODE ON for all audit trails.
If you cannot turn COMMITHOLDMODE ON, you also cannot use the COMMITHOLDTIMER
option.
Before you can set COMMITHOLDMODE to ON, you must mirror all the active volumes for the
audit trail.
