ALTER CATALOG
When the number of generations specified by integer is reached for all the files
in an online dump, the status of the tape volume is changed as follows:
To SCRATCH if you specified RELEASED OFF
To RELEASED if you specified RELEASED ON
Increasing integer causes the number of tape volumes required by TMF to
increase, because more online dump generations are retained in the TMF catalog.
In addition, more audit dumps are retained because they are needed for use with
the online dump generations during file recovery.
RESET RETAINDEPTH
resets the number of online dump generations retained to the originally assigned
default of 3.
ROUNDROBIN {OFF | ON}
determines the method TMF catalog processes use to select the next scratch tape
available to receive new online or audit dumps:
ROUNDROBIN OFF determines that each scratch-tape request starts its
search from the beginning of the list of tapes in the catalog, and selects the
first tape available for dumping (in other words, the scratch tape that has the
lowest identifying number).
ROUNDROBIN ON determines that each scratch-tape request starts its search
from the tape following the last one used from the list, and selects the next
scratch tape available. With ROUNDROBIN ON, all tapes in the list are
selected before any one of them is used another time.
The originally assigned default is ROUNDROBIN OFF.
Security Restrictions
You can issue the ALTER CATALOG command only if you are a member of the super
user group.
TMF State Requirement
You can enter the ALTER CATALOG command at any time, regardless of whether TMF
has been started.
Usage Guidelines
The TMF catalog maintains entries for audit dumps, online dumps, and tape media.
Dump entries contain the names of the files dumped, the names of the tape or disk
volumes containing the dumps, dump serial numbers, and other information for online
dumps and audit dumps. The tape media entries contain information about all tape
volumes known to TMF; each entry includes the name of the tape volume and its
