ALTER TMF
TRANSACTIONPROTOCOL {MMI | STANDARD}
RESET TRANSACTIONPROTOCOL
determines the protocol that TMF uses to flush transactions upon their completion.
During the flush operation, the disk process on each processor contacted during
transaction completion flushes its cache for that transaction.
The following flush protocols are available:
MMI
specifies a potentially more efficient flush protocol than the standard protocol.
For MMI, only the processors that are participating in a transaction are
contacted during the transaction’s completion. By reducing the number of
processors contacted, this protocol can improve performance on systems
where many processors are configured but only a few of those processors are
involved in any given transaction.
STANDARD
specifies the standard flush protocol, where all processors in the system are
contacted during a transaction’s completion. STANDARD is the default setting.
RESET TRANSACTIONPROTOCOL selects the default setting, STANDARD.
GOREMOTE {PIO | PRIOPRIORITY | MSG}
RESET GOREMOTE
specifies the method used to send GoRemote requests to the TMP to establish
distributed transactions.
GoRemote requests are initiated by the File System in the NonStop OS when the
File System determines that a transaction must be distributed to another system
(node). These requests, which contain the transaction ID, are sent to the TMP on
the parent node, which, in turn transmits them to the child node. To determine
whether TMF uses the packet input/output (PIO) mechanism or the Message
Caution. For most systems, the standard default value supplied by TMF for
TRANSACTIONPROTOCOL is adequate. Before changing this parameter to another value,
you should have a high-level TMF background and a clear understanding of the impact of this
parameter on your particular configuration; an inappropriate value could adversely affect
system performance. For safe and effective use of this parameter, please contact the Global
Customer Support Center (GCSC) or your service provider.
