TMFCOM Commands

3-116
ALTER TMF
PIOBUFFER
RESET PIOBUFFER
TMPWAITTIMER
RESET TMPWAITTIMER
In each ALTER TMF command, you can change only one of these options. For
example, if you wanted to change three of these options, you would need to issue
three separate ALTER TMF commands.
The DELETE TMF command resets all these options to their default values.
For customers who have used SNOOP, the SNOOP commands and the corresponding
ALTER TMF options are listed in Table 3-5.
TRANSACTIONPROTOCOL and GOREMOTE Options
In TMF, the TRANSACTIONPROTOCOL and GOREMOTE features are available to
optimize transaction processing in general. Through the ALTER TMF command
options, you can select, de-select, or modify these features:
•
The TRANSACTIONPROTOCOL option allows you to select the MMI flush
protocol, which can increase performance in larger systems, typically those that
have 8 processors or more. (In fact, on systems that have fewer processors, MMI
can actually degrade performance.) MMI primarily benefits applications that only
update files stored on a single disk volume or just a few disk volumes on the same
system.
•
The GOREMOTE option lets you determine whether TMF uses the PIO
mechanism or the Message System to deliver GoRemote messages to the TMP on
the parent system.
When TMF completes a transaction using the standard flush protocol, TMF contacts all
processors in the system. However, when you select the MMI flush protocol, TMF
contacts only those processors involved in the transaction. In systems that have many
processors, using MMI may increase performance.
