SET TAPEMEDIA
LABEL ON [!] | OFF
for dumps to tape, determines whether tape volumes are labeled:
ON [!]
ON labels tape volumes on the tape drive specified. If you choose this option,
you must also specify the name of the tape drive in the DRIVE parameter.
TMF invokes labeled-tape processing for the specified tape volumes to
determine whether each one is labeled successfully.
The exclamation point [!] is optional. It specifies that the tape volume is to be
labeled whether or not it has already been labeled. If you omit this option,
labeled tape processing does not label the volume if it has already been
labeled, and does not add a new name to the catalog.
OFF
suppresses tape volume labeling. When recovering the catalog, use this
option to add tape volumes back into it.
The default is ON.
STATUS
describes the status of the tape volumes named in this command:
ASSIGNED
indicates that the tape volume contains dumps. If the name of the tape volume
is found in the catalog, the dump serial number is included in a new entry in the
catalog. If the name of the tape volume is not found in the catalog, a new entry
is made in the catalog, indicating that the contents of the tape are unknown.
BAD
indicates that the tape volume is defective and cannot be used later for
dumping files or for file recovery.
Note. The following SET TAPEMEDIA parameters are only valid when LABEL ON is
specified:
•
DENSITY
•
DRIVE
•
UNLOAD
These parameters are not valid (and are ignored) if LABEL ON! (for overwriting existing
labels) or LABEL OFF is specified.
