STATUS DATAVOLS
Security Restrictions
Anyone can enter the STATUS DATAVOLS command.
TMF State Requirement
Before you can enter the STATUS DATAVOLS command, TMF must either be in the
started state or in the process of shutting down.
Usage Guidelines
You can control the volumes displayed, using the STATE, AUDITTRAIL, and
RECOVERYMODE parameters. These parameters can be used with one another to
selectively filter the volumes displayed; for example, you can specify a display of all
volumes sending audit to the MAT whose state is notstarted and whose recovery mode
is ONLINE:
TMF 3> STATUS DATAVOLS, STATE NOTSTARTED, AUDITTRAIL MAT, &
>>>RECOVERYMODE ONLINE
You can control the order in which the information is displayed: either by audit-trail ID
or by data volume name.
If TMF is in the process of stopping, STATUS DATAVOLS might return a status of
UNKNOWN for some configured data volumes. This status is reported because TMF
cannot discern the difference between a volume that has been shut down during
execution of a STOP TMF command and one that is not a configured data volume;
UNKNOWN indicates that either condition is possible.
If you specify an asterisk (*) for the volume name list and TMF is stopping, STATUS
DATAVOLS only returns the status of configured data volumes that have not already
been shut down.
If AWAITTRANSRESOLVE status is displayed for a data volume, the data volume is
awaiting restart—but the restart cannot take place until TMF completes all transactions
that were active in the system when the volume went down. Thus, transactions that
are awaiting resolution can prevent the recovery of a data volume even if those
transactions did not access that volume. You can identify transactions awaiting
resolution by entering a STATUS TRANSACTIONS, DETAIL command. If you are
running applications with long-running transactions and do not wish a data volume to
linger in the AWAITTTRANSRESOLVE state, you might want to bring those
applications down. This action might allow these transactions to finish and volume
recovery to complete.
Output Displayed
The STATUS DATAVOLS command displays the items explained in Table 3-22.
