ALTER TMF (Pages 3-94 through 3-95)
Changing the TMF Configuration Volume
With the CONFIGVOL option, the ALTER TMF command causes the TMP process to
change the TMF configuration volume and then stop itself. The new TMP process, re-
created automatically, uses the new configuration volume. If there are no configuration
files located in the ZTMFCONF subvolume on that volume, the TMP creates new ones.
You can restart TMF with a START TMF command.
If the configuration volume becomes inaccessible to the TMFMON2 process, the TMP
fails. To recover from this situation, issue an ALTER TMF command that specifies the
old configuration volume.
Switching the Primary and Backup TMP Process
With the SWITCHPROCESS TMP option, the ALTER TMF command causes the
primary TMP process to pass control to the backup TMP process. Thus, the primary
process becomes the backup, and the backup process becomes the primary.
The SWITCHPROCESS TMP option only takes effect when a backup TMP process
exists.
Changing the Audit-Trail File Format
With the ATFORMAT option, you can change the audit-trail file format from format 1 to
format 2, or format 2 to format 1. Format 1 and format 2 are disk partition formats that
can range up to approximately 2 GB and 1024 GB in size, respectively. They support
audit-trail files of up to 2047 MB and 1048575 MB, respectively.
You must use the STOP TMF command to stop TMF in a clean state before issuing the
ALTER TMF command with the ATFORMAT option. However, this stoppage is
Caution. Be very careful when entering the ALTER TMF command with the CONFIGVOL
option, because this command makes the previous TMF configuration inaccessible by
changing the configuration volume. Because your TMF configuration is thereafter defined on
the new configuration volume, it is a good precaution to ensure that this volume is a member of
a mirrored disk pair.
To make the previous TMF configuration active again, you must enter another ALTER TMF
command, giving the previous configuration volume name in volume.
