3270 Local and Remote Commands
IBM has defined different values for 3270 commands for local and remotely attached
cluster controllers. The local command set is used by 3272 and 3274 models -1B and
-1D channel-attached controllers. The remote command set is used by the 3271, 3274,
3275, and 3276 communications line-attached controllers.
You can configure the Guardian TN3270 Server to send either local or remote
3270 commands to TN3270 client programs.
Many TN3270 clients can accept either local or remote commands. Some clients accept
only the local 3270 command set. The IBM RS/6000 and OS/2 client programs
recognize only local commands.
The Guardian TN3270 Server translates 3270 ASCII commands used by Tandem block
mode applications to the corresponding local or remote EBCDIC commands based on
the presence of the -r command line option.
Table 3-1
illustrates when to set the -r option.
Note. If you run the Guardian TN3270 Server with no command line arguments, the startup
syntax is displayed and the Guardian TN3270 Server terminates.
