Installing the TN3270e Server
Installing the TN3270e Server
Follow these steps to install the TN3270e server:
1. If you are using Install (D-series installations only) to install the TN3270e server,
perform the RESTDSV, SYSGEN, and REPSUBSYS phases of the Install
program.
If you are using DSM/SCM to install the TN3270e server, see the DSM/SCM
User’s Guide for detailed information about DSM/SCM installation methods.
2. Start the TCP/IP process.
Use the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF), as shown next, to set the TCP/IP host
name if it is not already set.
3. Start the TN3270e server.
4. Connect to the TN3270e server from a TN3270 client.
Defining the TCP/IP Host Name
Use the following procedure to define the IP host name before bringing up the
TN3270e server.
Use SCF to set the TCP/IP HOSTNAME attribute, as follows:
TACL 1> SCF
1-> ASSUME PROCESS tcpip-process
2-> ALTER,HOSTNAME "host-name"
If the TCP/IP HOSTNAME attribute is set, error messages sent to the client are
prefixed with host-name.
Troubleshooting the Installation
After starting TCP/IP, you can verify the network connection from the workstation to the
host using one of the following methods:
Use the PING utility located in the PCTCP subdirectory. PING sends a probe
packet from one end of a TCP/IP connection to another and verifies that an
acknowledgment was received. PING is provided by many TCP/IP
Note. You can continue to use Install for your D-series system software installations. Be
advised, however, that dates may not be displayed properly. HP advises that you use
DSM/SCM to avoid this inconvenience. For G-series and H-series system software
installations, you must use DSM/SCM.
