Folders

Overview This section describes how to display and manage the folders in which packages are
filed. TRANSFER supports folders for both correspondents and interest groups as a
way to organize packages held at a depot. Correspondent depots have private folders;
interest group depots have shared folders. Any number of folders can be defined for a
correspondent or interest group.
Private Folders Three folders are created automatically when a correspondent is registered. They are:
The INBOX, containing packages delivered to the depot from other
correspondents
The WASTEBASKET, containing packages the correspondent deletes during a
session
The OUTLOG, containing a copy of each package the correspondent has sent out
These special folders remain part of the depot until the correspondent is deleted.
Other folders for filing packages received or created can be added or deleted by the
correspondent or a system administrator. Only a depot owner can read or modify the
contents of private folders. However, either the correspondent or a system
administrator can modify a folder's attributes, such as the item ordering criteria or
item retention time.
Shared Folders No one can log on to a group depot and send packages. Thus, interest groups do not
require the special WASTEBASKET or OUTLOG folders. Every group depot is created
with an INBOX, however, which remains part of the depot until the group is deleted.
Shared folders such as the group INBOX serve as electronic bulletin boards where
packages received are accessible to every member of the group. Other folders created
by group members with the appropriate privileges also operate as bulletin boards.
Administrators who are not members of the group can display a list of the group's
folders, but they cannot examine the contents of any folder.
TRANSFER supports several user classes and access levels for managing folders.
These are:
Group creators and group administrators, who can create folders for groups they
administer, can add, delete, and change the attributes of these shared folders. See
Section 5, “Listing, Adding, and Deleting Groups,” for a discussion of interest
groups and their creators and administrators.
Group members, who can create folders for groups whose profiles are
nonrestrictive, that is, configured to allow any member to create folders. Members
can add, delete, and change the attributes of these shared folders.
System administrators, who can add, delete, and change the attributes of folders
belonging to any correspondent or group.
