TRANSFER Administration Guide Volume 1 Reference Manual
9 TRANSFER Agents
40591 Tandem Computers Incorporated 9–1
Overview TRANSFER agents are programs assigned to a depot to handle incoming packages
automatically. Each agent has a profile. Based on criteria in the profile, TRANSFER
can determine which agent to invoke when a package is received in the INBOX.
You can configure various agents to handle different kinds of incoming packages. For
example, you can configure an agent to automatically file into a specific folder all
packages containing certain data in the header. Also, the same agent can be assigned
to the same depot more than once to perform different operations on different types of
messages. Thus, a depot can contain several profiles for the same agent.
Values in the Application ID and Agent Select fields in the package header determine
which agents TRANSFER invokes when a package is delivered. An agent is invoked
only if values in the header are within a range specified in the agent configuration.
Two agents are supplied with TRANSFER for use in specific situations:
The print-on-delivery agent directs incoming packages to a printer.
The vacation agent handles incoming packages for correspondents or groups who
do not plan to check their INBOX for an extended period of time.
The screens used to configure agents are the AGENTS screen, the default AGENT
CONFIGURATION screen, the VACATION AGENT CONFIGURATION screen, and
the PRINT-ON-DELIVERY AGENT CONFIGURATION screen. Figure 9-1 shows the
flow of screens for agent configuration.
