DEPOT STATISTICS CONFIGURATION Screen
System Control Functions
40591 Tandem Computers Incorporated 10–9
field. When the specified number of samples is collected, TRANSFER averages them
and saves a separate, averaged statistic. This function allows the system manager to
maintain statistical records and to see statistical fluctuations over a long period of
time.
The maximum value for this field is 58 minus the value in the Number of Samples
field. For example, if the Number of Samples is 7, then the Number of Averages can
be up to 51. If this field is set to 0, then no averaged statistics are computed and stored
by TRANSFER. The default Number of Averages is 1.
Averaged statistics for the current configuration period can be viewed on the
AVERAGE STATISTICS screen. Averaged statistics for the last configuration period
appear on the OLD AVERAGE STATISTICS screen. Refer to Section 11, “Displaying
Statistics for Depot Disk Storage,” for more detail, or see your system manager.
Standard Item Counting
This field indicates whether a given item will be counted more than once for a depot's
statistics when it is saved in more than one folder. Possible values are Y (yes) and
N(no). A Y in this field means the item will be counted in every place it is saved.
When the field is set to N, an item saved more than once in a depot is counted only
once in the depot storage total.
The default for Standard Item Counting is Y.
Note Items are physically stored only once in the TRANSFER database. If a correspondent stores an item
multiple times in his or her depot, or if multiple correspondents store the same package, TRANSFER
keeps just one copy and uses its ID number as a pointer to all the places the package is stored.
What Correspondents and
System Administrators
Can Do
Only the system manager should modify fields on this screen. When TRANSFER
correspondents display this screen it will appear without the F8 UPDATE function.
While system administrators will get a screen that includes the F8 function, they
should check with the system manager before altering any fields.
Some screen support functions are available to all users, however. Users can:
Display the CURRENT and NEXT configurations by pressing F1.
Recover the DEPOT STATISTICS CONFIGURATION screen in its previous state
by pressing SF14.
Get the Help screen for an explanation of either the DEPOT STATISTICS
CONFIGURATION screen or the ADMIN message currently displayed on the
advice line by pressing F15.
Return to the MAIN MENU screen by pressing F16 or SF16.
What System Managers
Can Do
System managers can alter any fields on the screens based on organizational policies
and management information needs at their site. Thus, they can configure a new
scheme for depot storage statistics collection by typing changes in the fields on this
screen and pressing F8.
