11 Displaying Statistics for Depot
Disk Storage
40591 Tandem Computers Incorporated 11–1
Overview This section describes how to display data gathered and computed by the TRANSFER
depot statistics facility. The facility measures, at specified intervals, the amount of
disk storage space each TRANSFER depot is using. Based on multiple measurements
over a configured period of time, TRANSFER calculates current and historical disk
storage statistics for individual depots, folders, and items. The data is available by
depot, by folder, and by item. Such information can help system managers,
administrators, and correspondents establish trends in disk usage over time and
calculate current or future system storage requirements.
Correspondents can display storage statistics for their own depots and for groups of
which they are members. System administrators can view statistics for any depot.
Collecting Samples TRANSFER collects statistics by taking “snapshots,” or samples, of disk space usage.
The number of statistics samples taken and the time interval between samples is based
on parameters configured at the DEPOT STATISTICS CONFIGURATION screen
described in Section 10, “System Control Functions.” The configuration screen allows
system managers to specify:
Whether statistics will be collected
A time of day when statistics collection will begin
How frequently a statistical sample will be taken
How many samples are to be collected per depot
Whether each set of samples will be averaged for historical analysis, and how
many of these averaged samples will be saved
The period during which statistics configuration parameters remain constant is called
the configuration period. A new configuration period begins when the system
manager changes one or more parameters on the DEPOT STATISTICS
CONFIGURATION screen and then stops and restarts TRANSFER.
Configuration periods define the boundaries between current and historical (or “old”)
statistics. Current statistics are those being collected during the current configuration
period. Old statistics are those collected during the previous configuration period.
When the system manager configures statistics collection parameters, a depot profile
attribute can be set to exclude individual depots from statistics collection. The system
manager can also set a parameter that specifies whether items are counted at the point
of delivery to a recipient's INBOX or only after the recipient (or an agent) handles the
item.
Items saved in the WASTEBASKET folder are not included in depot or folder statistics.
Note You can specify that a correspondent or interest group not be included in statistics sampling by setting a
flag in the correspondent or group TRANSFER profile. See Section 4, “Managing Correspondent
Profiles,” for information on excluding a correspondent depot from statistics collection. See Section 6,
“Managing Group Profiles,” for information on excluding a group depot from statistics collection.
