Displaying Statistics for Depot Disk Storage
11–2 40591 Tandem Computers Incorporated
Contents of a Sample Each statistics sample includes a byte count of disk storage space used for a depot's
items, external objects, distribution lists, and folders defined as follows:
An item is defined to include all data records and attachments linked to an item
and stored in a depot. (The structure and attributes of item data depend on the
TRANSFER application.)
An external object is an object outside the TRANSFER database (such as a
GUARDIAN 90 EDIT file) that can be accessed by TRANSFER. External objects
are attachments to items stored in the folders of any depot.
Distribution list records contain the names of correspondent and group members
of distribution lists belonging to a depot. (The distribution list function is
discussed in Section 7, “Managing Distribution Lists.”)
The byte counts for these depot components are summed in different ways to compute
storage statistics at the depot, folder, and item level:
A depot storage statistic is the sum of all three byte counts (item, external objects,
and distribution list records).
A folder storage statistic is the sum of all the item and external object byte counts
within a given folder.
An item storage statistic is the sum of the byte counts for the data records,
attachments, and external objects linked to the specified item.
Each instance of an item and each instance of an external object in a depot is accounted
for in a statistic, unless nonstandard item counting is specified as a parameter on the
DEPOT STATISTICS CONFIGURATION screen. For an explanation of item counting,
see the description of the DEPOT STATISTICS CONFIGURATION screen in Section
10, “System Control Functions.”
Byte counts for data TRANSFER stores as part of its operations—known as depot
overhead—are not included in statistics figures.
Depot Statistics Screens Seven depot statistics display screens are available to view current and historical
statistical values calculated from the collected data. These screens are the DEPOT
STATISTICS screen, the CURRENT STATISTICS screen, the CURRENT AVERAGE
STATISTICS screen, the OLD STATISTICS screen, the OLD AVERAGE STATISTICS
screen, the FOLDER STATISTICS screen, and the ITEM STATISTICS screen. Figure
11-1 illustrates the flow of the depot statistics screens.
