TRANSFER Administration Guide Volume 1 Reference Manual
Function Keys
Getting Started with ADMIN
2–2 40591 Tandem Computers Incorporated
On the version displayed for system administrators who can write on the screen, most
fields are highlighted, indicating that they can be altered.
On the read-only version, the fields are not highlighted because their values cannot be
changed. With other screens, the system administrator's version contains more fields
and function keys than the read-only version. These differences in screen functionality
enable the system administrator with write privileges to perform administrative tasks
that users without such privileges cannot perform.
ADMIN System
Administrator
The ADMIN system administrator is the support person called upon to perform the
following functions:
Register TRANSFER correspondents and interest groups
Customize individual and group profiles and agents
Maintain commonly used distribution lists
Train correspondents to use TRANSFER clients
Creating Administrators
and Correspondents
When TRANSFER is initialized on a node, a depot (the model depot) is automatically
created for one correspondent with system administrative write privileges. The
system manager or ADMIN system administrator will normally take ownership of this
original depot.
The model depot contains all the profiles used by TRANSFER to perform functions for
a correspondent. The depot includes a TRANSFER correspondent profile and mail
profile, as well as any agent profiles. The depot also initially contains three folders
where messages are filed: the INBOX, the OUTLOG, and the WASTEBASKET.
The ADMIN system administrator can use the original model depot along with
additional model correspondent depots to expedite registering other administrators
and correspondents to the node. Each new user receives an individual depot with
attributes identical to the model depot specified when the user was registered.
Any system administrator with write privileges can then, in turn, define new
correspondents or perform any other administrative function related to TRANSFER
for any correspondent on a given node.
See Section 3, “Listing, Adding, and Deleting Correspondents,” and Section 4,
“Managing Correspondent Profiles,” for information on adding correspondents, using
model depots, and defining and customizing user profiles. Profiles to be customized
may include customer-designed profiles. See your system manager to learn whether
custom profiles will be implemented at your site .
Function Keys Each ADMIN screen lists the function keys on your terminal keyboard that are valid
for that screen. Each listed key is labeled with the task you can perform by pressing it.
An unshifted function key is identified by the letter F and the number of the key (for
example, F16). A shifted function key is identified by the letters SF and the number of
the key (for example, SF16).
The special purpose keys PREV PAGE and NEXT PAGE are active on ADMIN screens
with two or more pages and allow you to move back and forth between the pages.
