To make ADMIN easier to use, several function keys are defined to perform the same
type of task whenever they appear on a screen other than the MAIN MENU. (On the
MAIN MENU, most function keys are used to call up other screens.) These commonly
defined function keys are listed in Table 2-1.
Table 2-1. Commonly Defined Function Keys
Function Key Action

F6 Deletes item specified
F7 Adds item specified
F8 Updates the current screen

Advice Messages ADMIN uses the bottom line of each screen to return advice messages after you press
a function key. Depending on the success of your operation, you will get either an
error message or an acknowledgement message.
Acknowledgement messages appear on the advice line to indicate successful
completion of a function. An error message, which tells you that there is a problem,
and the field in error are displayed in reverse video; that is, the fields are highlighted.
When you get an error message, you can press (F15) to get the Help screen, which
provides a description of the displayed message. The TRANSFER Administration Guide
Volume 2, Messages Manual lists the ADMIN error messages users can receive,
describes the effect of the error, and suggests a method of recovery, if necessary.
An acknowledgement message generally indicates the successful completion of a
function. This type of message is simply displayed on the advice line for your
information—ADMIN has executed the function you requested and is ready to
continue. Acknowledgement messages appear as normal text on the advice line,
rather than being displayed in reverse video.
Getting Help You can request Help by pressing F15 from any ADMIN screen when you need an
explanation of that ADMIN screen and its functions. ADMIN determines which Help
screen to display as follows:
If an error message is displayed on the advice line (in reverse video), ADMIN gets
the Help screen that explains the error message.
If the advice line is blank or an acknowledgement message is displayed (no
reverse video), ADMIN displays the Help screen that explains the ADMIN screen
you are currently on.
