Glossary–4 40591 Tandem Computers Incorporated
Wild-card name. A correspondent, interest group, distribution list, or folder name that
has an asterisk to represent any characters that can appear in that position. It is like a
pattern, except that a wild card can identify only one name.
X.400. An internationally recognized communications protocol. Tandem's X400
gateway connects TRANSFER to the Tandem OSI/MHS X400 product, which in turn
links to other X.400-compatible communications products on systems other than
Tandem systems. Thus, the Tandem X400 gateway and OSI/MHS X400 systems allow
TRANSFER correspondents to exchange packages with users on the other systems.
X400 correspondent. Any correspondent who communicates with other correspondents
on other host computers using a procedure based on the X.400 protocol. Both Tandem
TRANSFER correspondents and users of the other systems can have X400 user names
and participate in package exchanges across X.400 networks. Tandem's X400 gateway
connects TRANSFER to Tandem OSI/MHS X400, which in turn links to other X.400-
compatible systems.
