Qualifying Names
Usually, when you add correspondent names, interest group names, folder names,
and distribution list names to the TRANSFER directory, you need to specify only a
simple name. In certain circumstances, however, names that you enter on the ADMIN
screens need to be qualified with the node name, as shown in the following examples:
When a correspondent registered at another node is added as a member of a
distribution list belonging to a correspondent or interest group registered at your
local node, the correspondent name must be entered as:
correspondent @node
For example, LEWIS_SALLY @NYC identifies the correspondent named
LEWIS_SALLY who is registered at the node named NYC.
When a distribution list belonging to one correspondent is added to a distribution
list belonging to another correspondent or interest group, the distribution list
name must be entered as:
correspondent.listname [ @node ]
For example, GEORGE-BROWN.SALES identifies the distribution list SALES,
which belongs to GEORGE-BROWN, who is registered at your node. The node
qualification is required only if the owner of the distribution list is registered at
another node.
When a distribution list owned by an interest group is added to a distribution list
belonging to another correspondent or interest group, the distribution list name
must be entered as:
interest-group-name.listname [ @node ]
For example, ARTISTS.SCULPTORS identifies the distribution list SCULPTORS,
which belongs to the interest group ARTISTS, which is registered at your node.
The node qualification is required only if the interest group that owns the
distribution list is registered at another node.
Suffixes
Correspondent and interest group names added to a distribution list can include
suffixes. A suffix is an extension to a correspondent name and is generally used by
agents assigned to the correspondent's depot. A suffix consists of one or more
characters enclosed in parentheses. Any characters except a comma (,), a single
quotation mark ('), double quotation marks ("), and parentheses (()) can appear within
the parentheses of the suffix.
Examples of suffixes are:
