Overview This section provides general information about the creation and function of
TRANSFER interest groups, and goes on to describe the screens that enable you to list
existing groups and add or delete groups. These screens are called INTEREST
GROUPS, INTEREST GROUP ATTRIBUTES, INTEREST GROUP MEMBERS, and
VERIFY DELETION OF INTEREST GROUP. In addition, the INTEREST GROUP
AFFILIATION screen that displays a correspondent's interest group affiliations is
described. Figure 5-1 illustrates the flow of screens for listing and maintaining groups
and for displaying group affiliation.

Interest Groups TRANSFER provides a capability to establish interest groups comprising
correspondents who need to share information about a common project or interest.
From a technical standpoint, an interest group operates much like an individual
correspondent. Just as a correspondent is associated with a private depot that includes
profiles, folders, and distribution lists, so is an interest group created with a group
depot that includes profiles, folders, and distribution lists. The interest group depot
serves as an information bank for the group members: the INBOX and other folders
become electronic bulletin boards; and distribution lists are maintained for mailings
to members and others who need to be updated on the group's findings and progress.
