Interest Group Membership
The group creator can designate a group's membership as “creator-controlled” or
“voluntary sign-up.” With creator-controlled membership, only the group creator or
administrators can add new members. If a group has voluntary sign-up, all
correspondents can add or delete their own names. Interest group members must
reside on the same node as the group. Remote membership is not supported.
The PUBLIC Group When TRANSFER is initialized at a node, a PUBLIC interest group is automatically
created. The intention is to include every correspondent on the node in this group and
so provide a means for sending broadcast messages to all correspondents on a given
system.
When a correspondent is added to TRANSFER on the CORRESPONDENTS
ATTRIBUTES screen, a flag on the screen gives the system administrator the
opportunity to add the new correspondent to the PUBLIC GROUP. The default value
for the flag is Y (yes). Presumably, only programmatic correspondents would be
excluded from the PUBLIC GROUP. For details on this function, see Section 3,
“Listing, Adding, and Deleting Correspondents.”
