About This Manual This guide explains the messages TRANSFER, ADMIN, PS MAIL, and TMANAGER display to describe system or user errors that may occur during the use of ADMIN or PS MAIL. This is the second volume of the TRANSFER Administration Guide—the Messages Manual. It lists messages in numeric order, describes the problem each indicates, and suggests what to do about it. When you receive an error message, use its number to find the appropriate explanation.

Notation Conventions The following list summarizes the conventions for syntax presentation in this manual. Notation Meaning UPPERCASE LETTERS Uppercase letters represent keywords and reserved words; enter these items exactly as shown. Lowercase italic letters represent variable items that you supply. Brackets enclose optional syntax items. A group of vertically aligned items enclosed in brackets represents a list of selections from which you can choose one or none. Braces enclose required syntax items.
1 PATHWAY Errors (3000-3999) 3016 Insufficient resources to perform requested function. Cause. You have been moving from one screen to another without returning to a previous screen, and PS MAIL has exhausted its resources for keeping track of your progress. Effect. PS MAIL was unable to perform the action you requested. Recovery. Press SF16 to return to the MAIN MENU screen.
PATHWAY Errors (3000-3999) 3027 Transaction restart limit exceeded. Retry in a few minutes. Cause. PS MAIL tried to restart a transaction, but there was a timeout on a message. Effect. The transaction was not performed. Recovery. Wait until the message is available and try again. 3030 TMF is not configured. See your system manager. Cause. TMF is not configured. Effect. TRANSFER cannot run on your system. Recovery. See your system manager. 3031 TMF is not running. See your system manager. Cause.
2 TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4000 TRANSFER Interactive Server Return Base error code. Cause. All TRANSFER Interactive Server numbers are in the 4000 range; this is the base number for these errors. Effect. You should never see this code. Recovery. No recovery is required. 4001 End of file. Cause. This warning reflects a TRANSFER application programming error. It means that all available data has been returned and the unit of work (UOW) need not be called again for more data. Effect.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4007 You may not log on using this correspondent ID. Cause. The Logon Allowed flag in your TRANSFER correspondent profile has been set to N (no). Effect. You cannot log on to TRANSFER. Recovery. A system administrator with system administrative write privileges can change this flag so you can log on. 4009 Write not allowed. Cause. A requested update operation is not permitted under the current circumstances. Effect. The operation is not performed. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. Reenter your password and try to log on again. Remember that uppercase and lowercase letters are not interchangeable. 4017 Restricted operation. Cause. The operation you requested can only be requested by TRANSFER internal programs. Effect. The operation is not performed. Recovery. Try a different operation to accomplish your goal. 4019 INTERNAL ERROR: ALREADY IN SESSION. Report to Tandem Computers, Inc. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4027 Ambiguous name. Cause. You entered an abbreviated name (containing wild-card characters) that could not be expanded into a unique name. Effect. TRANSFER could not identify the name you want. Recovery. Make the name unique by entering more of the name’s actual characters before or after the wild-card character. 4028 Bad suffix; cannot fully resolve name as given. Cause. This is an internal error code. Effect. The requested function is not performed. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4036 The item is too complicated. Cause. The item has more levels of nesting than TRANSFER can handle. Effect. Your request is not processed. Recovery. Delete some attachments and try again to add the attachment or send the message. 4037 Parent not found. Cause. In trying to attach one item as a component of another, TRANSFER found no record for the parent item in the database. Effect. The item is not attached. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. Ask the system manager to run the TCHECK file utility to correct inconsistencies in the TRANSFER database. 4041 Item cannot be altered; it has already been submitted for delivery. Cause. You have tried to alter an item that has already been submitted. Effect. You are not permitted to perform the function. Recovery. Items cannot be altered if they belong to a message that has been submitted for delivery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. TISERV might not be able to schedule the current job. If the error number displayed is negative, it is a warning and your job has been scheduled. You can proceed. If the error number is positive, functions requiring asynchronous services, such as sending and cancelling, cannot be performed. Recovery. In either case, inform your system manager that TSCHED is unavailable. 4046 Invalid record type. Cause. The specified record type is reserved for use by TRANSFER. Effect.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4049 Record already exists. Cause. You tried to add records that have already been added to the TRANSFER database. Effect. The redundant records are not added. Recovery. Add records not already stored. 4050 Update mismatch. Cause. The record update control does not match. Either the programmer has returned the wrong key, or someone has updated the record between the read request and the update request. Effect. Your update is not performed. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4054 Invalid Agent Select field. Cause. An invalid value has been entered in the Agent Select field on the ADMIN AGENT CONFIGURATION screen. Effect. The requested function is not performed. Recovery. Agent Select field values must be in the range of 0 to 9999, and the From field value must not be greater than the Through field value. Correct the invalid Agent Select field on the ADMIN AGENT CONFIGURATION screen and request the function again.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4061 Item not in folder. Cause. The specified message is not filed in the specified folder. Effect. The requested item is not retrieved. Recovery. Make sure you’re using the right item name, or look for it in a different folder. 4063 Item not returned. Cause. This message is generated on of two ways: 1. An item handle in a UOW attempted to refer back to an item ID in a previous UOW that was not returned. 2.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4067 Remote name accepted without validation. Cause. You entered a correspondent name or a distribution list name that is defined at another node. The name has been accepted, but the validity of the name has not been verified because the Defer Remote Name Resolution flag in your TRANSFER correspondent profile is set to Y (yes). The name is not verified as an existing name until TRANSFER attempts to deliver mail using the name you entered. Effect.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4074 Invalid relative time quantity. Cause. You entered an invalid relative time quantity for the indicated delivery parameter or item retention time. (A relative value is one like "in 30 days," as opposed to an absolute value like "April 23.") Effect. The requested function is not performed. Recovery. Check the correct format and correct your entry. 4075 Time specified was less than the system minimum and was extended. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4079 Priority was too high; reduced to depot limit. Cause. You specified a priority that was higher than the maximum priority configured for your depot on the TRANSFER CORRESPONDENT PROFILE screen, page 2; TRANSFER reduced it to the depot limit. Effect. The value you specified will not be used. Recovery. Check the maximum priority configured for your depot in your TRANSFER CORRESPONDENT PROFILE and specify values within the maximum. 4080 The package was not received. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. Attempt to cancel only mail that you have created and sent. 4084 This mail has never been submitted for delivery. Cause. You attempted to cancel delivery of a piece of mail that you filed in a folder but never sent. Effect. The message is not cancelled. Recovery. Attempt to cancel only mail that you have created and sent. 4085 Data too long; item records are limited to 2000 bytes. Cause. A TRANSFER application tried to add an item data record that was too long.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. The message you receive will have truncated lines. Recovery. If you get this message in PS MAIL, ask the sender to resend the message with abbreviated lines of text so you will receive all the data. For other applications, the programmer should modify the application to accommodate longer record lines. 4090 One or more characters truncated from name during decollation. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4094 The package has been cancelled. Cause. The cancellation of a message delivery that you requested was successful. Effect. This is a notification only. Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required. 4095 The package has expired. Cause. A TRANSFER application acknowledged receipt of a package that had already expired. Effect. Your recipient did not look at the package. Recovery. Information only. 4096 Problem with item descriptor file. See your system manager.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4102 An invalid length for an ordering key was specified. Cause. Your process specified an ordering key length either less than 0 or greater than 200. The SCAN-FOLDER-BY-KEY UOW also returns this error if GENERIC-KEY-LEN is greater than STARTING-KEY-LEN. (This error occurs only in customer applications that define their own folder-ordering criteria.) Effect. The ordering function will not perform properly. Recovery. Specify an ordering key length between 0 and 200.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4106 Folder has a faulty ordering criteria. Cause. The ordering criteria for the folder is invalid. Effect. Although the folder is usable and most UOWs that access folders can still be issued for it, no additional messages can be stored in the folder. Recovery. Report this error to the system manager. 4115 WPLINK is unavailable on your system. Cause. You have tried to perform a WPLINK task on a node where WPLINK is not installed.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4150 That name has already been assigned to another item in this folder. Cause. You have tried to give an item a name that already exists in this folder. Effect. The item is not named. Recovery. Each item filed in a folder must have a unique name. Choose another name and refile. 4151 The item name you supplied contains illegal characters. Cause. You didn’t follow the rules for naming items. Effect. The item is not named. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4161 Merge to a new list, then add X400 name. Cause. The specified X400 name cannot be added as a distribution list member or recipient. You specified an X400 name as a new distribution list member for a distribution list created prior to the C30 release of TRANSFER, or you attempted to ad an X400 name as a recipient of a package created prior to the C30 TRANSFER release. Effect. The name is not accepted. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. Report this problem to the system manager. The appropriate UOW must be used to execute this request. 4167 There is no X400 creator name available for the message. Cause. The specified item is not a mail package. Effect. The function is not executed. Recovery. Report this problem to the system manager. The appropriate UOW must be used to execute this request. 4168 A distribution list may have no more than 9999 X400 members. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. The system will not accept the retention time value. Recovery. Use a retention time of at least 14 days for folders in the X400 depot. The X400 depot folders are X400-EXPORT, X400-EXPORT-PROBLEM, X400-IMPORT, and X400-IMPORT-PROBLEM. 4201 Context error. Cause. A GUARDIAN 90 error occurred while TRANSFER was processing this request. Effect. The request is not performed. Recovery. Report the GUARDIAN 90 error number to the system manager.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4206 The default model group does not exist. Cause. The model group name given is known to the Naming system; however, no depot or profile record exists. Effect. You can’t use the model group. Recovery. The default model group depot has been deleted, and must be recreated. 4207 The model group specified must be a group, and not a correspondent. Cause. You supplied a correspondent name, rather than a group name, for the model group in a create group operation. Effect.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4214 Invalid agent name. Cause. You typed an agent name to be added to your agent selection list that is not valid. Effect. The agent is not added. Recovery. Check to see that the name is left-justified in the New Agent Name field and does not contain embedded blanks or illegal characters. 4216 Invalid record number. Cause. This is an internal Tandem coding error. Effect. Operation not performed. Recovery. Report the error to the Tandem Online Support Center.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4227 One or more errors on members. Cause. You specified a member for an interest group, but the member does not exist. Effect. The function is not executed. Recovery. Ensure that all interest group member names are correct and try the operation again. If the error persists, see your system manager. 4229 Flag must be E or A. Cause. The flag is set to a value other than E or A. This is an internal Tandem coding error. Effect. The function you requested is not performed.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. The agent is not configured. Recovery. Set this flag to Y if the agent is a SCREEN COBOL agent or to N if the agent is a PATHWAY server class. Type either an uppercase or a lowercase Y or N and request the function again. 4233 The type is incorrect. Cause. The type of the name is not correct for the request. Effect. The request is not performed. Recovery. Enter a different name and try again. 4237 The GUARDIAN 90 name is not a valid file name. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4241 Program error (TRANSFER system record absent). Cause. No TRANSFER system control record can be found. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Ask the system manager to run the TCHECK file utility to correct inconsistencies in the TRANSFER database and report the error to the Tandem Online Support Center. 4242 Program error (TRANSFER/MAIL system record absent). Cause. No mail system control record can be found. Effect.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Add the next name you want. 4249 Invalid options specified. Cause. You were attempting to retrieve the member names of an interest group, and one or more options specified for retrieval are invalid. This problem reflects a TRANSFER application coding error. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Report the problem to your system manager.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4255 Group members still exist. Cause. You tried to delete a group, but group members still exist. Effect. The operation is not performed. Recovery. Delete the members, if appropriate, and then the group. 4256 An unexpected problem occurred while adding a group. Cause. An unexpected error occurred while adding a group. the INTGROUP file while reading an existing record. A file error occurred on Effect. The group is not added. Recovery. Try the operation again.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. Group members must be local to the instance of the group. Enter only local names as members of the group. 4260 The group member name specified is not a direct group member. Cause. You requested an operation that can only be performed on a direct group member (and not a member of a nested group). Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Choose a direct group member on which to operate, and try the function again.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4266 Invalid application-defined ordering type. Cause. You entered a value outside the range of 0 to 9999. This error reflects an error in a customer-written TRANSFER application with regard to the criteria for ordering folders. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Use a value in the range of 0 to 9999 in your criteria for ordering folders. 4267 Folder must be empty before attempting to alter folder order. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. TRANSFER sets the WASTEBASKET's default item retention time to infinity so that messages are never automatically discarded; you cannot change this setting. 4271 Folder added. Item retention time reduced. Cause. You entered a folder item retention time that was larger than the depot maximum item retention time specified in your TRANSFER correspondent profile. Effect. TRANSFER reduces the time to the maximum value set for the depot. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Ask your system manager to report the problem to the Tandem Online Support Center. 4278 A required parameter is missing. Cause. A required parameter was not supplied to an internal procedure. This is a Tandem internal error. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Ask your system manager to report the problem to the Tandem Online Support Center. 4279 The sharing discipline is invalid.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4284 INTERNAL ERROR: GFSERV Server request error. Cause. Multiple possible causes, depending on the code displayed at the right end of the advice line. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Note the code displayed at the right end of the advice line. If the number displayed here is 4990, request the function again (a timeout occurred).

Message 4284—Detail Return Codes Return Code Meaning 1 Version code in IPC header is not recognized by the server. 2 Session ID in the header is not for a valid session. 3 Service denied; reason unstated. 4 UOW header is invalid, the UOW is missing, or the UOW number is not valid. 5 Request is too long. The UOW is expecting more data than is in the interprocess message. 6 Reply is too long.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4300 Old password is not correct. Cause. You tried to change your TRANSFER password, but the password you entered in the Change Password From field does not match the current password in your TRANSFER correspondent profile. Effect. Your password does not change. Recovery. Type your existing password in the Change Password From field exactly as you originally typed it; uppercase and lowercase letters are not interchangeable.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4304 Type correct GUARDIAN 90 ID and password. Cause. You have made one of two errors: 1. You tried to perform an operation—such as editing, printing, or adding GUARDIAN 90 files as attachments—that requires a valid GUARDIAN 90 user ID in your TRANSFER correspondent profile. 2. In attempting to update your TRANSFER correspondent profile, you typed an incorrect GUARDIAN 90 ID, left the GUARDIAN 90 User ID field blank, or typed an incorrect GUARDIAN 90 password. Effect.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Enter an acceptable GUARDIAN 90 system name before trying to update your profile. 4309 Language cannot be altered while a session is active for the depot. Cause. You tried to change the language identifier while the depot was in session. Effect. The change you requested is not implemented. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. This is a TMANAGER message intended for the system manager. The value supplied for DataBase File threshold is interpreted as a percentage of file capacity, where 100 is 100 percent. A value of 0 is interpreted as “no capacity threshold.” Enter a value within the range 0 to 100. 4317 A value other than 0 through 4 has been supplied for Queue Type. Cause.

TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4321 The value supplied for Server Type is invalid. Cause. An incorrect value was supplied for the Server type. It reflects a Tandem application coding error. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Notify the Tandem Online Support Center. 4322 The value supplied for Log Records per open is invalid. Cause. An incorrect value was supplied for the Log Record Per Open field. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required. 4326 Request cancelled. Cause. After first requesting a deletion, you subsequently cancelled the request on the verification screen. Effect. The deletion you originally requested is cancelled. Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required. 4327 Agent added. Cause. The agent name you typed in the Add Agent field has been added to the agent selection list. Effect.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required. 4331 Deleted: Cause. You deleted a folder. Effect. The folder name displayed in the message has been deleted from your depot. Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required. 4334 Distribution list added. Cause. You entered a distribution list name. Effect. The name has been added to your depot. Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required. 4335 Deleted: Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4338 Cursor must be on a folder name. Cause. You tried to delete a folder, but your cursor was not at a folder name. Effect. The folder is not deleted. Recovery. Retry the operation. 4339 Cursor must be on a distribution list name. Cause. You tried to delete a distribution list, but your cursor was not at a distribution list name. Effect. The distribution list is not deleted. Recovery. Retry the operation. 4340 Cursor must be on a correspondent name. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. No recovery required. 4348 Correspondent added. Cause. You successfully added a correspondent. Effect. The correspondent name you typed has been added to the TRANSFER database. Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required. 4349 Deleted: Cause. You successfully deleted a correspondent. Effect. The correspondent name displayed in the message has been deleted from the TRANSFER database. Recovery. Information only. No recovery is required.

TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4356 INTERNAL ERROR: TISERV Server request error. Cause. An internal error has occurred. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. Report the error and the return code number to the system manager or the Tandem Online Support Center. Table 2-7 shows possible return codes.

Report the error, the displayed code and subcode, and the error number at the right end of the advice line to the system manager or the Tandem Online Support Center. 4361 SEND failure to HELP server. Cause. An internal error has occurred. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery. If the status code displayed at the right end of the advice line is 4 or 12, request the function again.

Recovery. Retry the operation with a different pattern. 4368 No next page. Cause. You pressed the NEXT PAGE key, but there is no next page to display. Effect. The screen is unchanged. Recovery. You are at the end of the file. Press PREVIOUS PAGE to go back towards the beginning of the file, or exit.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4371 Function key has no meaning on this screen. Cause. You pressed a function key that is not valid on the current screen. Effect. The screen is unchanged. Recovery. All valid function keys are listed on each PS MAIL or ADMIN screen. Choose a valid function and retry the operation. 4372 First page. Cause. You are currently on the first page. Effect. Information only. Recovery. No recovery required. 4373 Already on first page. Cause.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4376 Control record updated. Cause. The TRANSFER system control or PS MAIL system control parameters have been updated with changes you typed on the screen. Effect. Your update was successful. Recovery. No recovery required. 4378 Text Server request error. Cause. An internal error has occurred. Effect. The function you requested is not performed. Recovery.

The message is not copied. Recovery. Correct the destination file name and retry. 4423 Type correct file to add. Then press F7. Cause. You tried to add a file that is not valid as an attachment. Effect. The attachment is not added. Recovery. Type a valid file name.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4428 Invalid use of keyword: Cause. The user was trying to add a GUARDIAN 90 file as an attachment to the workspace and one of the keywords typed on the options line was not used properly. Effect. The file is not added. Recovery. Check the error message for the invalid keyword you must correct. 4430 The message cannot be output on a printer. Cause. You tried to print an attachment of a type, like DATA or PCDATA, that cannot be printed. Effect.

If any other error number is displayed, report the error and the error number to the system manager. 4451 Unable to write to specified file. See your system manager. Cause. You attempted to print mail, and the indicated error occurred. If error number 14 is displayed, the device is not available. If error number 48 is displayed, you are not allowed to write in this file. Effect. The mail is not printed.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) 4471 Unable to log on to GUARDIAN 90. See your system manager. Cause. You entered your correspondent name and password on the LOGON screen, but a session cannot be started for you. Effect. Your logon fails. Recovery. Check your correspondent name for correct spelling; if you entered an abbreviation for your name, make sure the abbreviation is unique. You might not have entered your correct password; reenter your password and try to log on again.
TRANSFER Errors (4000-6999) Recovery. The IXF software is used to exchange data between files on a workstation and files and devices on the Tandem host network. The IXF software consists of two separate programs: IXF.EXE on the workstation, and the IXF program on the host. See the 654X Information Xchange Facility User's Guide for further details. Either your mail correspondent profile indicates that formatting should be done automatically when the print function is requested, or you supplied the keyword FORMAT with your print request. Effect. No ill effect. Recovery. The formatter named in your mail correspondent profile should be automatically invoked to provide formatted output. As a PS MAIL user, you should not see this internal warning.
