TRANSFER Administration Guide Volume 2 Messages Manual

About This Manual
40592 Tandem Computers Incorporated v
This guide explains the messages TRANSFER, ADMIN, PS MAIL, and TMANAGER
display to describe system or user errors that may occur during the use of ADMIN or
PS MAIL. This is the second volume of the TRANSFER Administration Guide—the
Messages Manual. It lists messages in numeric order, describes the problem each
indicates, and suggests what to do about it.
When you receive an error message, use its number to find the appropriate
explanation. The text tells you how to fix the error or whom to ask for help.
Some error messages include a second set of numbers that refer to problems with the
GUARDIAN 90 operating system or the PATHWAY transaction processing system.
The accompanying text for these detail return codes tells you where to look for an
explanation of the GUARDIAN 90 or PATHWAY problem.
Refer to the TRANSFER Installation and Management Guide for information about
messages issued by the TRANSFER definition programs (CDTRDEF, CDMLDEF,
CDIMDEF, CDCMDEF, and CDX4DEF); startup messages issued by TRANSFER
servers; and messages reported by TCHECK when data-file inconsistencies are
detected.
How You Get Error
Messages
You can receive error messages from the TRANSFER environment when you use
ADMIN or one of the TRANSFER applications such as PS MAIL. The messages
appear on the advice line at the bottom of your screen when:
You request an illegal function.
You type invalid data on the screen.
An operational problem occurs within your TRANSFER system.
What Error Messages
Look Like
The error messages are identified by either one or two four-digit numbers. When you
see only one four-digit number, it is the primary error number; when you see two sets
of numbers, the first is the error and the second is the detail return code.
The detail return code typically identifies a GUARDIAN 90 error number, a
GUARDIAN 90 file code for TRANSFER files, a PATHWAY system error number, or a
PATHWAY SCREEN COBOL SEND or CALL error.
You can look up GUARDIAN 90 error numbers in the System Messages Manual and
in the messages summary section of the GUARDIAN 90 Operating System
Operations Reference Summary.
You can look up a PATHWAY system error number, in the range of 3000 to 3999,
in the PATHWAY System Management Reference Manual.
You can look up a PATHWAY SCREEN COBOL SEND or CALL error number, in
the range of 0 to 0099, in the PATHWAY SCREEN COBOL Reference Manual.
