Definition Program
File-Moving Procedure
All the definition programs generate files in the configuration subvolume. If the
generated files exist, the definition programs move the old files to another subvolume.
When the definition programs move these files, they write newly generated files to the
configuration subvolume and issue messages telling the location of the old, moved
files.
A PATHWAY control file (PATHCTL) is assigned to the configuration subvolume
when TRANSFER is configured by the XCNFG program.
The definition programs generate the subvolume name for the moved files by using
one of the following formats:
aaaaOLD or aaaannnn
where:
aaaa is the first four characters of the subvolume name.
OLD are the characters appended to aaaa unless one or more of
the files being moved exist on that subvolume; then the definition
program uses nnnn.
nnnn is a series of digits that identify a new, unique subvolume.
On any one run, a definition program moves all files to the same subvolume.
For example, if the configuration subvolume name is TRANCNFG, a definition
program upon encountering a file that it is generating in TRANCNFG moves the old
file as follows:
To subvolume TRANOLD unless one of the files being generated already resides
on that subvolume
To subvolume TRANnnnn where nnnn is a series of digits that identifies a new
subvolume
