The SPREP Log
In order to monitor what might be long runs of SPREP—for instance, the first time you
enable statistics on an existing system—you can define a log file in DEFINETR as
follows:
TRStatsPrepLog $C.#SPREP.LOG
—Specifies the log file for SPREP. You can change the
—default value to a device, process, or disk file. If
—the disk file does not exist, SPREP creates it.
—Optional, reconfigurable parameter.
In addition to getting the information that the log provides, you can use the log to
check whether the process is still running.
You cannot use the timestamps to predict exactly how much time SPREP will take.
Timing is affected by other system activity. Timing also depends on the complexity of
the items—for instance, how many components; on the complexity of the depots—for
instance, how many folders; and on the depot statistics configuration.
The following example shows an SPREP log generated by A-STATS while doing
statistics preparation. Depending on any changes of the statistics configuration
parameters from the last time XCOOL was run, your SPREP log can contain all or only
some of the following records.
