Initializing Special
Depots
After you start TRANSFER or particular components for the first time, you must
initialize special depots. The names that follow in parentheses are the default depot
names; all these except the names for the PUBLIC depot (PUBLIC) and the X400
gateway depot (_X400_) are configurable. The special depots are:
System-administrator depot (SYS-ADMIN)
Model depot (MODEL-DEPOT)
Model group depot (MODEL-GROUP)
PUBLIC depot (PUBLIC)
Asynchronous requester depot (_TRANSFER_)
X400 gateway depot (_X400_)
Setting the Password for
the System-Administrator
Depot
When TRANSFER is initially started, a system administrator can log on to the ADMIN
application using the correspondent name for the initial system-administrator depot
established when TRANSFER is initialized; the password field is left blank. This
system administrator then establishes depots for other correspondents and, if
necessary, changes the system control parameters for TRANSFER and the TRANSFER
applications. For security purposes, the system administrator should immediately
enter a password for the system-administrator depot created at initialization time.

Configuring the
Model Depot
The model depot is a special depot from which a system administrator can create other
correspondent depots. Correspondent depots receive the profiles and attributes
associated with the depot from which they are created.
By setting profiles and attributes in the model depot for best system usage and using
the model depot to create correspondent depots, you can control system use.
You can configure the model depot by setting the following profile and special folder
attributes:
TRANSFER correspondent profile
Depot-level item retention time, which sets the maximum item retention time
for any item stored in a folder at the depot
Refer to Section 11, “Managing a TRANSFER System,” for hints on
configuring appropriate retention time values.
