Configuring the Model
Group Depot and the
PUBLIC Depot
When a TRANSFER system is installed, you must also initialize two special depots for
interest groups:
The model group depot
The PUBLIC group
The Model Group Depot
The model group depot is a special depot from which a system administrator can
create other interest-group depots. Like private depots, group depots receive the
profiles and attributes associated with the depot from which they are created.
The default name for the default model group depot established during system
initialization is MODEL-GROUP. When an interest group is created and no group-
depot name is explicitly supplied for the model, the default model group,
MODEL-GROUP, is used.
By setting profiles and attributes in the model group depot for best system usage and
using the model group depot to create interest-group depots, you can control system
use.
You can configure the model group depot by setting the following profile and special
folder attributes:
TRANSFER group profile
Depot-level item retention time, which sets the maximum item retention time
for any item stored in a shared folder at the depot
Refer to Section 11, “Managing a TRANSFER System,” for hints on
configuring appropriate retention time values.
Folder-order creation defaults, which are used as the default ordering criteria
and item retention times for all folders the interest group creates. Ordering
criteria determines how items are stored in a folder and the presentation order
used when the folder is scanned. The ordering criteria are:
Ordering discipline, which can be chronological by time the item was
saved, by earliest delivery date for the item, or by item creator name
Ordering sequence, which can be ascending or descending
Duplicates allowed, which designates whether duplicate ordering keys are
allowed
Folder and distribution list creation privileges, which designate who can
create shared folders and distribution lists for a group
Permission for group signup, which designates whether a group has voluntary
sign-up privileges
