TRANSFER Installation and Management Guide
8 Redefining a TRANSFER System
13198 Tandem Computers Incorporated 8–1
Overview Redefinition is the process of changing the TRANSFER configuration. You redefine
the configuration to:
Change parameters in one or more define files for a component currently
configured for your system
Add a feature component to your system, which requires defining the new
component and initializing it with associated data files
Reconfigure for a new release of software for any component
Redefinition Procedure Redefinition is performed by running the definition programs with REDEFINE
specified. The definition programs generate new files in the configuration subvolume
to be used for configuring, stopping, and starting the system.
The steps required for redefinition are:
1. Edit all the define files that you wish to change.
2. Run all the definition programs—described in Section 6—for REDEFINE.
3. Run the XCNFG program to cold load the TRANSFER PATHWAY system.
4. Run the XCOOL program to start the TRANSFER PATHWAY system.
When redefining the system, it is best to copy your configuration subvolume and
prepare the redefined system while the existing TRANSFER system runs. Be sure that
you stop the existing system with the XSTOP file generated in the same configuration
subvolume as the XCOOL file that started the system.
