Configuring Parameters for Statistics Collection
Using ADMIN to Administer TRANSFER
13198 Tandem Computers Incorporated 9–15
The oldest statistic collected is overwritten when the number of samples collected
is greater than the configured number of samples; in this example, when week
eleven’s storage statistic is recorded, week one’s storage statistic disappears.
The minimum number you can specify is 1; the maximum number of samples and
averages combined is 58. For example, if the number of samples is seven, the
number of averages can be up to 51. The TRDFLTS default for number of samples
is seven.
NUMBER OF AVERAGES is the number of averaged depot storage statistics
recorded in the DEPSTAT file for each depot.
This field shows how many averages are to be saved, where each average is the
average of several samples. The number of samples used is specified in the
NUMBER OF SAMPLES (PER AVERAGE) field. When the specified number of
samples is collected, TRANSFER averages them and saves a separate, average
statistic. This capability allows you to maintain statistical records and to see
statistical fluctuations over a long period of time.
For example, if you want to record statistics daily for a week and you want to keep
13 averages, you set the SAMPLE INTERVAL to 1 day, the NUMBER OF
SAMPLES to 7, and the NUMBER OF AVERAGES to 13.
After a week, you have depot storage statistics for each depot for these seven days
and one average statistic for the week. After 13 weeks, you have statistics for the
last seven days and also averaged statistics for each of the last 13 weeks.
Each (unaveraged) storage statistic in this example is for a depot at the end of one
specific day. Each averaged storage statistic equals the average byte count for one
week—the sum of the seven unaveraged statistics divided by the number of
samples.
The oldest average statistic collected is overwritten when the number of statistics
collected is greater than the configured number of averaged statistics; in this
example, average 1, the average for days 1-7, is replaced by average 14, the
average for days 92-98.
The maximum number of samples and averages combined is 58. For example, if
the number of samples is seven, the number of averages can be up to 51. If this
field is set to 0, no averaged statistics are computed and stored by TRANSFER.
The TRDFLTS default for number of averages is 1.
You can view averaged statistics for the current configuration period on the
AVERAGE STATISTICS screen. Average statistics for the last configuration
period appear on the OLD AVERAGE STATISTICS screen.
