Using the MONITOR
CONFIGURATION Screen
You can specify a database sample interval and a queue sample interval in minutes
(M), hours (H), or days (D), with units from 0 to 9999. A zero indicates infinity, or no
sample interval. The minimum nonzero interval for both the database sample and the
queue sample is 15 minutes. The default for both is 0 (infinity).
You can also specify thresholds for specific events at which you are notified as follows:
You can set a database file capacity threshold. When this file capacity—such as
85%, for example—is met or exceeded in any TRANSFER file, the file name and
capacity fields are highlighted in reverse video on the TMANAGER DATABASE
SAMPLES screen.
You can configure alarm thresholds for types of work that are defined for the three
scheduler queues and held READY records being monitored. Up to 10 of the 16
work-type and queue combinations can be configured for threshold alarms. When
any of these configured queue thresholds—such as 500 submit packages in the
READY queue, for example—is met or exceeded, the work-type and count fields
are highlighted in reverse video on the TMANAGER QUEUE SAMPLES screen.
In addition to these passive alarm notifications, you can set an active alarm-
notification feature for both database samples and queue samples. If any configured
threshold value is met or exceeded and the active alarm notification is enabled, an
alarm message is automatically written to a configured alarm-notification log file as
soon as the event is detected.
You specify the location of the notification log file in the Active Alarm Log Location
field. If you supply a partially qualified log file name, TMANAGER uses first your
correspondent mail profile defaults and then your GUARDIAN 90 defaults to qualify
the file name fully. Because file-name resolution might require your GUARDIAN 90
defaults, you must have a GUARDIAN 90 user ID configured in your TRANSFER
correspondent profile.
Active alarm notification includes not only database files that are displayed on the
DATABASE SAMPLES screen and queues that are displayed on the QUEUE
SAMPLES screen, but also DBSAMPL and QSAMPL, which are the files that contain
previous samples for both the database and TSCHED queues.
When you press F14 to update any field where values have been altered, TSAMPLE
additionally takes new database and queue samples.
