Managing a TRANSFER System

X400 Domain Names Before any exchange of messages with a foreign X.400 network can take place, you
need to define and initialize an X400 gateway node. Many factors determine which
node you choose as the gateway node, such as:
The effect of increased message traffic and message storage
Connections to outside X.400 networks through the MTA
Geographic location
Communications regulation
The TRANSFER X400 gateway must have an MTA installed on the same node in order
to operate. Section 6, “System Installation Procedures,” tells you how to install the
TRANSFER X400 gateway. The Tandem OSI/MHS Configuration and Management
Manual tells you how to install MTAs.
The following X400 names that you define in the DEFINETRX4 file must match the
same names for the MTA:
X4Country
X4ADMDName
X4PRMDName
The following X400 name that you define in the DEFINETRX4 file must match the
same name for the MTA:
TRX4GatewayNode
As explained in Section 9, “Using ADMIN to Administer TRANSFER,” these values
can be retrieved by any correspondent on any node with X400 configured, using the
ADMIN X400 GATEWAY ATTRIBUTES screen.
You can modify these names only by running the CDTRDEF and CDX4DEF programs
to redefine them. Section 8, “Redefining a TRANSFER System,” discusses redefinition.
Changing any of these parameters also changes the X400 address of TRANSFER
correspondents. If any of the parameters in the DEFINEX4 file are modified, the
addresses of all correspondents using that gateway are changed. If the
TRX4GatewayNode is changed in DEFINETR, only correspondents on that node are
affected. If you change the TRX4GatewayNode, update all the nodes that use that
gateway.
